When it snows it quiets down. It literally becomes quiet as the snow absorbs all sound. I love the hikes on those pristine mornings when it is cold, crisp, and quiet. This is the back of Sugar Bowl ~ you can see the ski runs in the upper right of this image. Totally peaceful out here in the winter weather.
Donner Lake from the Summit, over 7,000 feet. A bit of ice floating on the water. Temps were 0* overnight and were 10* when this image was taken. It was like the entire world was still asleep.
Rushing water with steam rising. No sounds except the movement of the water and click of the shutter.
The kind of snow that sticks to every branch on every tree ~ too cold for it to begin melting. The sun was peeking through the woods, sparkling on the fresh snow.
The limbs are heavy, bending and sagging.
Trails disappear under the white carpet.
Could not have had a prettier day.
Tradition has us stopping at The Coffee Bar ~ the reward: Pumpkin Doughnut Holes!
Get out there and enjoy your day ~ take the time to slow down a bit.
More snow is on the way ~ it is forecast to snow for the next 8 days, so this morning hike was most welcome. Nice to get out there between the storms.
